This month once again was a struggle, and I was only able to finish three books, bringing my total YTD at 8. Not the best start to the year, but there’s still a lot of time left, so hopefully April is better. At least two of the three books were from my physical TBR, so I’m making some progress there.
What I Read
One & Only by Maurene Goo
368 pages | Romance | 5 stars
I got this book from BOTM, and I’m glad I read it. It’s a love triangle, but with a bit of a twist. With the magical realism added to the book, it made the trope feel fresh to me. I was also extremely happy with the ending; it was very sweet with the epilogue showing the three characters in a different time period. It really made me think of following logic and what makes sense on paper vs. following your heart and emotions.
This Story Might Save Your Life by Tiffany Crum
357 pages | Thriller | 4 stars
I also got this book from BOTM. I liked the POV changes between Joy’s manuscript draft and Benny trying to find her. I don’t really like the friends-to-lovers trope, especially when one of them has been in love with the other forever. It makes it feel like they were only around because they wanted to get with them. But overall I really enjoyed the book, and I liked the direction it went on domestic violence awareness.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
476 pages | Science Fiction | 4 stars
This was for my library book club. This was the first one I have been able to join since the year started, and I’m glad it was this book! It’s such a great book about friendship during an apocalyptic scenario. Also, the movie does match closely to the book, and has some spectacular scenes, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, I highly recommend.
Favorite Book of the Month
My favorite book this month was One & Only by Maurene Goo. The decision between logic and emotions intrigued me. It felt like a fresh take on a love triangle, and was messy in the best way.
