June 2025 Wrap-Up

My June wasn’t as busy as May, but it was still pretty hectic since my job does quarterly reports, so I was scrambling a bit to finish the quarter up. I still managed to finish five books, so my YTD is now 34.

I read four fiction and one nonfiction, with three fantasies, one mystery, and the nonfiction being business/entrepreneurship. Also, three books were nonUS authors, so getting that more on track for my goal for the year.

I did read one book already for my Summer TBR Reading Challenge, so that’s nice to have a jump-start on that! Also, three books were from my physical book collection, so slowly chipping away to make room for new ones.

What I Read

Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales by Heather Fawcett

368 pages | Fantasy | 5 stars

This is book three of the Emily Wilde series and is the final book. I read it through my library. I was sad that the series is over, I would read 10 more books set in this world.

Play the Fool by Lina Chern

320 pages | Mystery | 4 stars

A tarot card reader who solves a murder is right up my alley, and I was not disappointed! I was also pleasantly surprised by the humor mixed in. I’ll be doing a full review soon.

Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven

352 | YA Fantasy | 4 stars

Two immortal souls doomed to die before turning 18 and reincarnating together in the next life for infinity sounded intriguing to say the least. I was obsessed with the timeline of this book and interested to find out why they had to die before they turned 18 and how that kind of deal came about. Everything is explained neatly, so it’s a satisfying read. Also, it didn’t read like a YA to me, which was a plus because I’ve mostly moved away from reading YA.

A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson

432 | YA Fantasy | 3 stars

This book was one of my 25 most anticipated fiction reads for the year, so I was really excited for it, but it fell short for me. I was expecting Babel plus dragons, but it didn’t exactly hit the mark. Also it’s a duology, which I had forgotten, so it was a little disappointing to not have the full story in one book. I’ll be doing a full review soon.

Make Your Mark: The Creative’s Guide to Building a Business with Impact, edited by Jocelyn K. Glei

260 | Nonfiction-Business | 4 stars

This had some good insights in bite-sized chunks, so it made it easy to pick up and put down over the course of the month. Some things I thought were a bit outdated since it was published in 2014, but there were still some good ideas sprinkled in.

Favorite Book of the Month

My favorite book this month was Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales by Heather Fawcett. It’s one of the few series I’ve read where each book is better than the last, and I’m sad it’s over. I hope Heather Fawcett writes more with Emily and Wendell in the future.
