March was pretty busy for me at work since a lot of my job has quarterly goals, so I only read four books this month, bringing the YTD to 19. I read one nonfiction and three fiction books. I once again met my goal of reading at least one fiction and one nonfiction that I already own, although it came down to the wire this time; I had to stay up late on the 31st to finish one of them, but it got done! I ended up reading two fiction books that I own, one nonfiction that I own, and one book from the library. Three were from American authors.
Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djèlí Clark
213 pages, Novella, Fantasy, 5 stars
This was for my library’s book club. I absolutely loved this book, it was perfectly packaged as a novella and really sucks you into the world and the story from page one. You can read my full review here.
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
370 pages, Fantasy and Romance, 5 stars
This was one of the fiction books I own. I loved this book more than the first one in the series if that’s even possible. You can read my full review here.
Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson
1344 pages, Fantasy, 5 stars
This is the other fiction book I own. I read basically the whole book in March, even though I had bought it in December when it came out. I had read maybe 200 pages before the start of March, but I decided I really wanted to get it finished this month. There’s so many moments in this book that surprised me but also left me satisfied for the ending of the first arc of The Stormlight Archives. I cannot wait until the next book though, in like five years. You can read my full review here.
Surviving Autocracy by Masha Gessen
288 pages, Nonfiction-Politics, 2 stars
This is the nonfiction book I already own. Honestly was a bit disappointed in this book because I hear a lot of people talk about it, but I thought maybe there would be some practical advice on surviving in an autocratic nation since Masha spent some of their childhood in Russia and later had to flee to the United States, but it mostly focused on Trump’s first presidency, which was just depressing for me.
I would say my favorite book this month was Wind and Truth. With it being the culmination of the first arc of The Stormlight Archives, pulling so many story lines together into one epic conclusion, it has to go in as my number one.
What was your favorite book you read in March?
