This year my library chose to do a quarterly reading challenge instead of for the year. I think it’s more accessible to do it per season because it will end up only being 12 books as opposed to 20 for the yearly reading challenge. However, you only have the three months to complete it instead of the whole year, but this still amounts to just one book a month, which at least for me is more doable and doesn’t distract me as much from my yearly reading goals. Also, there’s a chance for a $25 gift card, which is a nice reward.
It could also be fun to see if any of the categories go with that season. Spring is the first one they released, and I have from March 1 to May 31 to pick three of the prompts to complete. For the spring one, there were six prompts to pick from:
- Read a book from a display shelf (they often change their display shelves to reflect the month’s themes or holidays)
- Read a staff favorite
- Read a genre you don’t normally read
- Read a book to movie adaptation
- Read a recently published book (within the last year)
- Read a book with a pastel cover
I think the only one that goes with the season is the pastel color, although reading from a display shelf could go with the season because they often have ones relating to the month or currently season.
I chose to “read a genre I don’t normally read” (Surviving Autocracy by Masha Gessen), “read a book to movie adaptation” (Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, excited to see the movie! Read my review here.), and “read a recently published book” (Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson, which you can read my review here.)
Let me know if you’re doing any reading challenges for the year!
