Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix is a 248-page horror novel. It is set in a knock-off Ikea store in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find furniture destroyed. Sales are down, the security cameras reveal nothing amiss, and the store managers are panicking. To solve the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour overnight shift. They patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sightings and sounds, and encounter horrors beyond imagination.

Horrorstör is such a fun and unique idea for a story. The book is in the shape of an Ikea catalogue and has furniture featured between chapters, as if it were a real catalogue. Due to the design of the book, I thought perhaps it wouldn’t be that scary. Boy was I wrong. There was a lot of humor at the beginning, but it became creepier over time and devolved into madness at the end, with even the furniture featured becoming more deranged. The ending was more terrifying that I could’ve imagined. I would love to see this become a movie. If you’re a fan of horror, I highly recommend giving this a try.

I give Horrorstör 5 stars.
