Book Summary
Bride by Ali Hazelwood is a paranormal romance novel where a dangerous alliance between a Vampyre and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a deep love. Misery Lark, the only daughter of a very powerful Vampyre councilman, is called away from the human world to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and the Werewolves.
Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice, and not without feeling either, unlike the Vampyre council. It’s clear he doesn’t trust Misery from the way he tracks her every move, and he’s right to not trust her. Misery has her own reasons for agreeing to the marriage, and it has nothing to do with alliances or politics. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means living alone in Were territory.
My Thoughts
Bride is a small departure from Ali Hazelwood’s typical style. Her other romance novels are very STEM focused and set in the real world. Also, I’ve heard most of her books are like Hermione and Draco fanfiction, which I cannot unsee now that I’ve heard it since it does seem fairly accurate to the couples in her other books. I did not get that same vibe from Bride. However, the couple was the same in that the man has always been in love with the woman from the beginning but the woman thinks he hates her due to a miscommunication. I think the setting was different enough for me that I wasn’t as bothered that the couple was the same framework as her other novels.
I liked the tension from Misery and Lowe. They understandably didn’t trust each other from the start, but I like how they slowly let each other into their lives. How their relationship evolved felt very organic; none of it felt unrealistic for the timing and it wasn’t too slow of a burn to be frustrating. There is definitely plenty of spice as well, which I enjoyed.
Final Thoughts
Bride is a classic enemies-to-lovers tale, and I loved every minute of it. I’m looking forward to the sequel coming out in October.
