I recently went to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, for our annual family vacation, and since I had an extra day to explore, I decided to check out Jasper, IN, which is only a short drive away. I’m so glad I did because tucked right on the main square is a charming little gem called The Next Chapter. It opened just a few years ago, and it has quickly become the kind of place that feels like the heart of the community.

The store itself is beautifully arranged. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee from their in-store coffee bar and a lovely display of new releases at the front. There’s a cozy table right near the entrance where you can sit, sip your drink, and flip through your latest find. Toward the back, there’s a variety of used books and a delightful children’s area complete with a small table and chairs, perfect for little readers.

One of my favorite parts was the meeting space in the very back, where there are comfy couches and tables for book clubs, community gatherings, or just a quiet moment to unwind. It’s clear that The Next Chapter isn’t just a bookstore; it’s a community hub, a place where people come together to connect over stories, coffee, and conversation.

One of the owners happened to be there during my visit, and he couldn’t have been more welcoming. He took time to chat about the store and their events, and his enthusiasm really showed how much care goes into making it such a warm, inviting space.

Of course, I couldn’t resist trying something from the coffee bar, and let me tell you, the Milky Way Latte was amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I ended up ordering a second one before I left!

If you ever find yourself in southern Indiana, or if you’re visiting Holiday World like I do every year, The Next Chapter bookstore in Jasper is absolutely worth the detour. It’s now officially part of my annual trip tradition.
