2024 Book Survey

I found these yearly book survey questions from https://www.perpetualpageturner.com/2019-end-of-year-book-survey/ and thought it would be fun to answer for 2024! I took the questions I found most relevant for my reading style and answered them below.

How many books did you read?

I read 47 books this year, which was just shy of my 50 book goal. However, I did read the first four books of the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson, which each book is around 1000-1200 pages, so those took up a lot of my reading time.

Most read genre?

Longest and shortest book you read?

Favorite book published in 2024?

Favorite book not published in 2024?

A book that lived up to the hype

A book that did NOT live up to the hype

Book that felt like the biggest accomplishment?

Not a book but reading the four books for the Stormlight Archive series in one year was my biggest accomplishment. It seemed like a huge undertaking and took the whole year to accomplish.

Favorite passage or quote

“Would it not be enough to grow old with the one you love, even if you live in obscurity?”

-The Song of Achilles

Favorite character

Shallan I think, from the Stormlight Archive series, I love her character development throughout the series and she really comes into her own towards the end of book 4.

Least favorite character

Torol Sadeas from the Stormlight Archive series.

Most shocking book/moment

Most shocking book: The Honeys by Ryan La Sala

Most shocking moment: In Rhythm of War, when Maya spoke in the trial in Shadesmar. “We! CHOSE!” “You. Cannot. Have. My. SACRIFICE!” Gave me chills.

Favorite couple/OTP

Daphne and Miles from Funny Story by Emily Henry.

The best written book you read this year

The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff. I think it’s quite difficult to write shorter books, and her writing was both haunting and beautiful.

Favorite book cover of the year

What book made you cry the most?

What book made you laugh the most?

A new favorite author you discovered this year

Brynne Weaver! I’m obsessed with the serial killer romances.

Guilty pleasure read of the year

What is the best non-fiction book you read this year?

Were you happy with your reading year?

Yes, I’m very happy with how much I was able to read while still doing a reading challenge through my library as well as reading all of the Stormlight Archive series.

Plans for next year

I want to read more nonfiction; I have a lot on my TBR bookcase so I’ll be prioritizing those. I also will probably try for 50 books again, and probably won’t be diving into a new series or doing a reading challenge.
