Kenosha’s Cozy Book Crawl: Studio Moonfall & Blue House Books

Exploring indie bookstores is one of my favorite ways to get to know a city, and during my recent visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin, I discovered two charming spots that every book lover should add to their travel list. Studio Moonfall and Blue House Books are just down the road from each other, each offering its own unique vibe, community spirit, and shelves full of stories waiting to be found. Whether you’re searching for indie reads, bookish gifts, or simply a cozy place to wander, these Kenosha bookstores deliver a memorable experience.

Studio Moonfall

If you ever find yourself in Kenosha, Studio Moonfall is the kind of indie bookstore that instantly feels like a creative haven. It’s a cozy shop filled with titles from indie authors, including books written by the owner himself. Beyond the shelves, the store leans into its whimsical, imaginative vibe with D&D companion items like detailed maps, dice sets, and a variety of tabletop accessories, as well as a curated selection of games, from card decks to quirky adventure-style packs.

What really makes Studio Moonfall stand out, though, is how deeply it supports the local creative community. Every month, the owner organizes a book festival in the parking lot directly across from the studio, giving independent authors a chance to showcase their work, connect with readers, and build their audience. I attended their Bookaween event in October, and it was such a warm, welcoming experience. The people running it were incredibly kind, and I had the chance to meet some fantastic authors.

One of the highlights was the raffle the owner hosted throughout the event. Winners received a $5 coupon to spend with any author at the festival (an amazing way to directly support the writers) and a $10 coupon for use inside the studio itself. It was such a thoughtful touch that showed how committed they are to uplifting the creative community.

Studio Moonfall is more than just a store; it’s a place where imagination, community, and indie storytelling thrive. If you’re ever nearby, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

Blue House Books

Just down the street from Studio Moonfall sits another Kenosha gem: Blue House Books. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Studio Moonfall, but depending on the weather, you may want to hop in the car. Once you’re inside, though, the trip feels absolutely worth it.

Blue House Books has the warm, curated feel of a modern indie bookstore. Most of their selection is new, with a nice range of genres and beautifully displayed shelves. At the front of the shop, you’ll also find a small but delightful bargain section with gently used books at great prices, perfect for treasure hunters or spontaneous additions to your TBR.

Beyond the books, the store is full of bookish treats: bookmarks, candles, stickers, pens, journals, and other cozy literary accessories that make the space feel even more inviting. Toward the back is a bright, charming children’s and middle grade section, thoughtfully organized and full of colorful picks for young readers.

One of my favorite parts of my visit was the interaction with the staff. The clerk was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They even handed me their store newsletter, which included a word search. If you completed the puzzle and turned it in, you were entered for a chance to win a gift card. It was such a cute, community-minded touch that made the experience feel fun and personal.

Blue House Books is the kind of indie store that makes you want to linger, browse, and support the people who pour so much love into their shelves. If you’re exploring Kenosha’s book scene, it’s a must-stop.

Both locations offer convenient street parking right in front of their storefronts. Kenosha’s indie bookstore scene is small but full of personality, creativity, and heart. Studio Moonfall and Blue House Books each bring something special to the table, from community-centered events and eclectic indie titles to warm staff interactions and thoughtful little touches. If you’re planning a trip through southeastern Wisconsin, make time for both. They’re the kind of local shops that remind you why supporting indie bookstores matters: you walk in as a visitor, and you leave feeling like part of the community.
